Upananda is an innovative fashion brand store and works towards the upliftment of underprivileged women. The fashion brand store was recently inaugurated by Tollywood actress Paayel Sarkar at ICCR, Café The.

The 300 sq. ft store comprises of saris, dress materials and kurtis. The store owners also plan to bring in more varieties in kurtis by the end of the year. They will also be introducing men’s wear by the end of this year so as to cater to the needs of the men too. The fabrics which have been used for the making of these saris and kurtis are jute silk, raw silk, chiffon, georgette, ghicha and others. The color range also varies from neon to pastel shades. Saris start from Rs. 1500 at this new fashion brand store.

Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Debjani Mookherjee said, “We wanted to empower other women and this led to the birth of Upananda. The name is derived from Sanskrit which means joy of your soul. We are also working with a NGO called Dakshini Prayash. We train the women when their children study at the free school run by the NGO”. The women work on a day to day work basis for Upananda. This has been done so that they do not incur any losses due to shortage of work in future.

Actress Paayel Sarkar said, “I am really happy to come for this inauguration. I am all in support for the empowerment of women. The collection is good and I plan to buy some saris and kurtis from here”.

With such initiatives undertaken by the privileged sections of the society, many women will be helped out of financial distress.
