Kolkata Gears up for Puja Shopping; National Silk Expo inaugurated by actress Aparajita Adhya

In the august presence of Tollywood actress Aparajita Adhya, National Silk Expo was inaugurated at Haldiram Banquet Hall. Organized by Gramin Hastakala Vikas Samiti, the artisans from all over the country came to this exhibition to showcase their ethnic weaves and traditional pure silk and cotton products.

More than hundred weavers and designers were part of this exhibition. Some of the different kinds of saris on display at the exhibition included Gadwals, Dharmavaram, Jamdanis, Sambalpuris, Benaras silks and others. Apart from this, cotton saris, suit dress material, fashion jewelry, home furnishing, designer clothes from all over the country also featured in the exhibition.


Even bags and Diwan sets made from Benarasi silks were available at the exhibition. The bags ranged from Rs 100 to Rs 750. The Double bed Diwan sets cost Rs 3500 while the single bed Diwan sets cost Rs 2200 respectively.

Speaking at the occasion, actress Aparajita Adhya said “This is indeed a great exhibition just before the festive season. People will be able to buy from a wide variety of saris at the most affordable prices. The fact that there is no middle men involved ensures that the customers and the weavers can both profit”.


Twenty percent discount was offered on the saris and the dress materials at the exhibition. The silk and cotton products on display is between Rs 500 to Rs 20000. Junk jewelry ranging between Rs 300 to Rs 13000 was also available at the exhibition.

The exhibition was a grand shopping extravaganza for the customers as they could get the best products directly from the weaver at the most affordable prices.
